Brazilian Portuguese dictionary for Aspell and Vim
As a sequence of my february update (in Portuguese), I announce the new version of the Brazilian Portuguese dictionary for GNU Aspell 0.6 and Vim 7.
This update brings the improvements from BrOffice.org‘s 2.2 Spell Checker (in Portuguese): umlaut requirement when appropriate, corrections in verb conjugation, even more word inclusions, and affix rules alterations. Raimundo Moura is already working on a new version, which should benefit from the hyphen to validate enclisis such as “conjugá-la-ia” (Portuguese for “I would conjugate it”). I’m waiting anxiously!

Dando seqüência à minha atualização de fevereiro deste ano, anuncio uma nova versão do léxico (“dicionário”) de português do Brasil para GNU Aspell 0.6 e para Vim 7.x.
Essa atualização traz as novidades do Verificador Ortográfico lançadas com o BrOffice.org 2.2: exigência do trema, correção da conjugação de alguns verbos, inclusão de mais palavras, e alterações das regras de afixos. Raimundo Moura já está trabalhando em uma nova versão, que aproveitará o hífen para validar ênclises como “conjugá-la-ia”. Aguardo ansiosamente!
Cheering on Mono
… or something like that.
This february I read the news on FootNotes about a competition promoted by Linux Format Magazine with Novell: Make it with Mono. I was interested in todo.txt, a command line to do manager I read about in Lifehacker and Efetividade.net, so I asked for a graphical interface for it.
May, when I had already forgotten about the contest, I received an email from Linux Format informing my idea was among the 30 most popular (!) and asking my address to deliver my promissed Mono shirt. Surprisingly, they did sent it to Brazil!
Currently I use a Hipster PDA for my to do list. I use Tasks since version 0.1 when I’m on my computer, and I love it. Does anyone want to present me with a Nokia N800?
(Translation note: in Portuguese, “to wear something’s shirt” means to adopt the idea, to work on it.)
Window selector in the GNOME Panel
Window Selector is a GNOME Panel applet; by default, it is displayed on the right edge of the top panel. It’s that icon where we can click to switch between windows by selecting them in a menu, as in the illustration.
I’d like to know: does anyone use the window selector instead of the window list?

O Seletor de Janelas é um miniaplicativo do painel do GNOME; na instalação padrão, ele é exibido no canto direito do painel superior. É aquele ícone em que podemos clicar para alternar entre as janelas selecionando-as de um menu, como na ilustração ao lado.
Eu queria saber: alguém usa o seletor de janelas em vez da lista de janelas?

Em fevereiro deste ano, o FootNotes divulgou um concurso promovido pela revista Linux Format com a Novell: Make it with Mono. Eu estava interessado no todo.txt, um organizador de tarefas para a linha de comando, divulgado pelo Lifehacker e pelo Efetividade.net, então pedi uma interface gráfica.
Em maio, quando eu já tinha esquecido o concurso, recebi um e-mail da Linux Format informando que minha idéia tinha ficado entre as 30 mais populares (!) e perguntando meu endereço para entregar a prometida camiseta do Mono. E não é que eles mandaram mesmo?
Atualmente uso um bloco de fichas pautadas (“Hipster PDA”) para listar minhas tarefas. Uso o Tasks desde a versão 0.1 quando estou usando meu computador, e adoro. Alguém quer me presentear com um Nokia N800?

A few weeks ago Red Hat released the Liberation typographic family, saying that the fonts would be metrically identical to the famous Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New, distributed by Microsoft. In practice, a document formatted with Arial could be displayed with Liberation Sans without any distortion. Really?

I discovered through Og Maciel and Tux Vermelho about the GNOME Specimen 0.2 release. I found the application to be very interesting, but this will be subject of another article. I’d like to highlight the developer enthusiasm when he started to receive nice comments and, look, translations.
I agree with Wouter Bolsterlee: its great to work in a community!
