Ignacio Casal Quinteiro (Nacho) is a core Gtranslator developer and coordinates the Galician GNOME translation team. At first I didn’t know he was from Galicia; then, one day he found me via Jabber and started talking with me in a language I couldn’t recognize either as Portuguese, either as Spanish
If you are care about free software translation, or the Portuguese language and its orthographic agreement, don’t miss our interview!

I promised better agility in updating the Portuguese dictionary for Vim, didn’t I? Six days after Natura Project updated its European Portuguese dictionary for Myspell, its Vim counterpart is already available in the FTP site.

The GNOME 2.22 translation starts in two days! The Brazilian GNOME translation team is in a great phase, keeping GNOME’s interface completely translated and increasing the documentation translation. Furthermore, we are always enhancing old translations and improving our translation process. Know who’s who in this team which in the next months is going give GNOME 2.22 a translation as good as the amazing novelties in the RoadMap.

Translating software is much simpler than translating literature, but it still provides translators some dilemmas. Information technology is full of English expressions which other cultures assimilated to some degree, even if sometimes there are proper expressions in the native language. Free software translators (at least the Brazilian ones) recurrently discuss about whether to adopt an English word, hence I decided to do some research on the subject.

Today there was another release of GnuCash, a free software for finance management for Small Office and Home Office. Like the previous one, this version has few new resources, maybe because it’s quite complete. While version 2.0 was marked by the update to GTK+ 2, GnuCash 2.2’s differential is the port for Windows.

Whoever check my activity on the GNOME SVN repository will see I’m back to work!
Now I “only” have to publish the so much delayed interview with Rui Vilela, finish the SVN Guide for GNOME Translators, coordinate the Brazilian Portuguese translation of GnuCash, translate the iso-codes package, publish a tip about VMware on Viva o Linux, enhance the message catalog syntax highlighting for Vim, …
I guess the list doesn’t end

If you use OpenOffice.org in Brazilian Portuguese, you should subscribe to its news feed. Today, for example, Gustavo Pacheco announced, in the name of the Documentation Project, the availability of more OpenOffice.org documentation in Portuguese: 2 original documents and 7 translated.
Writing or translating documentation is a demanding job, and OpenOffice.org documentation is extensive. Congratulations for the Documentation Project on the achievement!

Congratulations to Projeto Fedora Brasil (Project Fedora Brazil) for releasing Fedora 7! Like Rodrigo de Oliveira already mentioned, the release notes are already available in Brazilian Portuguese. I can tell you it includes a lot of up-to-date software, including xorg-server 1.3 (which will be part of X.Org 7.3), GNOME 2.18, NetworkManager (which couldn’t be included in GNOME for now) and SCIM.
I met the project through Igor Soares, at the time of GNOME 2.18 translation. I wish you plenty of success!
